The Kentucky Open Government Coalition is very pleased to learn that Governor Beshear today vetoed HB 312, a bill that did far more harm than good to the public's right to know under the current open records law. Those who stand in opposition — including those who signed on to our letter opposing HB 312 and our veto request — welcome the news but recognize that the battle is likely not won.

Our appreciation to these media organizations, groups, and individuals — and especially the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press which submitted its own letter requesting veto of HB 312 — for exposing this cynical legislative maneuver aimed at shielding public agencies and officials from public scrutiny.
