The Kentucky Attorney General issued the following open records decisions this week*:

1. 21-ORD-004 (In re: Amy Schneider/Gallatin County Sheriff's Office)

Summary: The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office violated the Open Records Act by failing to timely respond to a request for records. The Sheriff's Office also violated the Act when it failed to state affirmatively that no records responsive to a portion of the request existed.

2. 21-ORD-005 (In re: William Aucott/Kentucky State Penitentiary)

Summary: The Kentucky State Penitentiary did not violate the Open Records Act by not providing an inmate copies of photographs that posed a security risk under KRS 197.025(1).

3. 21-ORD-006 (In re: Robyn Smith/Labor Cabinet)

Summary: The Labor Cabinet violated the Open Records Act when it denied a request to inspect training and skills assessment materials and certain directives issued to unemployment insurance referees.

*The Attorney General typically posts these decisions on the Monday following the week of issuance. This week's decisions were posted today (presumably) in anticipation of the commemoration of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 18, when state agencies will be closed.
