HB 273, Rep. Freeland's bill creating a new exception to the open records law for "photos or videos that depict a person's death, killing, rape, or sexual assault or abuse," has advanced to the Senate and was assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee on February 22.

Since it appears few lawmakers—including its sponsor—understand that it does not achieve its stated goal and that it is wholly unnecessary, its passage seems certain.
