Opinion By: Robert F. Stephens, Attorney General; By: Carl Miller, Assistant Attorney General

You have requested an opinion of the Attorney General interpreting the meaning of KRS 189.330(6)(b). As amended by HB 24 (1978) the statute reads:

"(6) The operator of a vehicle intending to turn shall do so as follows:

(b) Left turn. The operator of a vehicle intending to turn left shall approach the turn in the extreme left-hand lane lawfully available to traffic moving in the direction of travel of such vehicle. Whenever practicable the left turn shall be made to the left of the center of the intersection and so as to leave the intersection or other location in the extreme left-hand lane lawfully available to traffic moving in the same direction as such vehicle on the road being entered. [Emphasis ours.]

It is our opinion that the last sentence quoted above makes no sense at all. We believe that the two words underscored, "left hand", should have read "right hand". The wording of the statute apparently resulted from a clerical error.
