A recent tweet from MuckRock highlights outrageous, but not unexpected, delays by federal agencies in responding to Freedom of Information requests.

The extension of the three business day deadline to ten business days is not a license to prioritize other business over statutory duties imposed by the open records law.

Absent a (plausible) "detailed explanation" of the cause for delay beyond ten business days, and a statement of the earliest date certain the requested records will be produced, the city has violated the law.

And it would come as no surprise if the ultimate response consists of a partial or even a blanket denial.
