A quotation taken out of context can be a misleading and dangerous thing. This partial quotation appears in Martin Luther King's book, Strength to Love, and is apparently drawn from a 1957 sermon he gave on loving your enemies.

But buried in this universal axiom is another, albeit subordinate, axiom for believers in truth over lies and transparency over secrecy.

So, at the risk of doing violence to Dr. King's intended message, we share it for the unintended message it also imparts.

As a man who was the target of racialized government surveillance the extent of which has never been fully unmasked, we hope he would find no fault in the borrowing.
