As public officials across the country are praised or vilified for their response to the pandemic that has crippled the world, one standard by which they are measured is transparency.

Officials must decide how much "specific, yet non-identifying, information" it is safe to release, and how much is too much?

This op-ed from the Atlanta Journal Constitution" explores the dilemma facing these public officials in determining what the "appropriate balance [is] between protecting an individual's identity and the public's right to information during a public health crisis?"

Because "withholding potentially life-saving information goes beyond reasonably protecting privacy and, instead, fosters anxiety and public mistrust of health institutions," the op-ed calls for a "recalibration of privacy vs. access."
