The most newsworthy feature of this October 2 Lexington Herald-Leader article about a September 26 decision issued by the attorney general that resolved an open records dispute in favor of the requester and against the Fayette County Public Schools appears in the second paragraph of the article:

"Fayette County Public Schools' spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said district officials respect the Sept. 26 ruling and will work to make sure the problem doesn't occur again."

What? No recriminations? No accusations of political motivations? No threats of a circuit court appeal, needless delay, and mounting attorneys' fees?

Well done, Fayette County Public Schools. A respectful acknowledgment of error — arguably excusable, and certainly not blatant — and a commitment to ensuring the error does not recur.

Virtually unheard of in these times.

Perhaps the story is, after all, more newsworthy than it appears at first glance.
