In the midst of near tragedy, selfless courage, and proof of the power of human connection, Multnomah County, Oregon school officials abandoned claims of FERPA protection and shared this school surveillance video.

The Washington Post reports that the "video of [t]his intimate moment with [Angel] Granados-Diaz [and football coach Keanon Lowe]— released by the district attorney Friday in response to a public records request — has drawn a new wave of praise online."

Fortunately, the Oregon school district officials did not check with the US Department of Education's Family Policy Compliance Office before releasing the video. Chances are, if they had, we might never have seen this truly redemptive moment.

*Slight amendation: Prosecutors released the video. It is unclear if a request for the video was submitted to the school district. But there's satisfaction in knowing that fitful school officials did not attempt to obstruct access under a specious FERPA claim.
