Manual High School journalists have exposed disturbing references to Adolph Hitler in a Kentucky State Police training PowerPoint using records obtained thru the open records law.

The Courier Journal reports that "current KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer also served as the commissioner of KSP under the entire eight-year term of former Gov. Steve Beshear from 2007-15"— the period during which the training PowerPoint was presumably in use.

KSP ignored an October 14 request for additional records relating to the PowerPoint , and complaints about the PowerPoint, a fact that — the students astutely note — constitutes a violation of the open records law (the lesser of two evils).

A spokesperson for the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet responded to requests for comment, advising that the Beshear "administration does not condone the use of this material. The material is not currently a part of any training materials and was removed in 2013."

The training PowerPoint has been widely excoriated. The ACLU has called for "an immediate, transparent review of training materials" and retraining of "any cadet who trained with the KSP while these materials were used."
