The Lexington Herald-Leader weighs in on the "stealth bomb" lobbed by legislators at newspapers in HB 351, reneging on an earlier compromise brokered in HB 195.

The bill, which has moved to the Senate, shifts responsibility for publication of legal advertisements from newspapers to public agencies on the unsubstantiated pretext of cost saving.

The Kentucky Open Government Coalition has expressed support for the Commonwealth's newspapers, and opposed that portion of HB 351 that abandons the earlier compromise in HB 195 and any pretext of genuine support for transparency and accountability.
