The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting has compiled its own database of racehorse deaths on Kentucky's racetracks — from January 2010 to June 2019 — based on information disclosed to it by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and information obtained from other sources.
As the Center reported, the Commission agreed to release the information to which it had previously denied KYCIR access — and to continue to post current information about racehorse deaths — in exchange for KYCIR's agreement to withdraw its pending open records appeal with the Kentucky attorney general.
The database, which is linked below, includes the horses' names, ages, and injuries/factors precipitating the decision to euthanize.

Thanks to the efforts of KYCIR, and its aggressive and effective use of the open records law, Kentucky now joins the ranks of the majority of states that freely make the same information available.
