A great tip from WDRB reporter, Travis Ragsdale, led us to this article about criminal charges filed against an Atlanta official criminally charged for obstructing an Atlanta news station's and newspaper's access to public records.

The illegal action to impede access to public records was far more serious than the improprieties exposed in the records reluctantly and belatedly disclosed.

If possible, please be sure to watch the video that appears at the conclusion of the story.

It's safe to assume that Kentucky officials engage in similar conduct. A 2017 audit of the UofL Foundation confirmed shocking efforts to obstruct access to records relating to inflated retirement benefits for the highest ranking university officials, including its former President.

Criminal penalties exist for willful concealment or destruction of records with the intent to violate Kentucky's open records law at KRS 61.991(2)(a). Each such violation is a Class A misdemeanor. To date no criminal charges have been brought against any known Kentucky official.

Thanks to WDRB for sharing this story with us.
