Deep appreciation to the Scott Court Fiscal Court for its commitment to strict compliance with the open meetings law during these challenging times, and to the News-Graphic for calling positive attention to the fiscal court's actions.

Traditionally, the News-Graphic has not been a newspaper to heap false praise on a recalcitrant public agency. Its approval of the fiscal court's conduct is a reliable test of open meetings compliance.

The News-Graphic writes:

"The attention and respect given to Kentucky's Open Meetings laws by our fiscal court should be appreciated by all. Yes, that is the law, but unfortunately not all public officials or government bodies adhere to those ordinances as much as they should.

"It was a difficult and frustrating time for the fiscal court, and especially [Judge Executive] Covington, but everyone did the right thing and the public was served."
