Attorneys for the Courier Journal filed a motion in Jefferson Circuit Court on June 29 to expedite disclosure of the Breonna Taylor investigative file and related documentation.

In its motion, the Courier characterizes the refusal of the Louisville Metro Police Department and other Louisville agencies to release the completed investigative file as a "willful violation."

The Courier asserts that "LMPD's internal investigation into the shooting became final once it was turned over to outside agencies."

These agencies, the Courier argues, "have selectively disclosed portions of the file that support their preferred narrative(s), while simultaneously claiming that release of any other information will harm an investigation being conducted by different law enforcement agencies."

"This patronizing logic," the Courier maintains, "violates both the letter and spirit of the Open Records Act, which was enacted to ensure that 'public servants are indeed serving the public.'"
