Anyone who knows anything about KSP's track record on open records questioned this decision when Mayor Greg Fischer announced the move.

As one person noted: KSP and transparency go together about as well as orange juice & toothpaste.

The cited KSP policy speaks for itself.

"The agency's policy around release of open records states that KSP 'shall not release any agency record if associated with a criminal case that remains open, *except as may be ordered by a court or when authorized by law.*'"

Question posed by the Courier Journal answered!

Based on this KSP policy, the public is likely to have access to far less, rather than more, Including body cam video.

This means more legal battles in the courts to obtain the records — since KSP requires a court order directing disclosure. It also means more delays, more costs to taxpayers, more unnecessary exhaustion of judicial resources, and, ultimately, more subversion of the public's right to know.
